The blaze began on Tuesday, Oct. 29 inside the laundry room at a North Salem home on Nash Road, according to the Croton Falls Fire Department.
Arriving fire crews soon began dousing the flames with hose lines and started making their way inside. However, while firefighters were battling the blaze inside, one member fell through the floor, prompting a mayday transmission.
The firefighter was soon found, though, and removed from the building with minor injuries.
The response to the blaze took around four hours and required help from more than a dozen departments, including the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department from Putnam County.
